Why camping is good for mental health

Packing your bag and getting out for a walk can be very good for your body and mind, whether it's a walk in your local area or a camping trip. Many campsites are closer to nature than you might think, and several are open all year round.

To name a few of our sites, Hasvåg Sjøcamping is located close to coastal life with fresh sea air, fishing and swimming opportunities. Evjua Strandpark is located close to forests and lakes, with bird chirping, paths and green air. Jotunheimen Feriesenter is located near mountain peaks that can give you adrenaline and a sense of accomplishment. There are many reasons why camping can be good for your mental health - and here are some of them:

Relaxation and presence

When you go on an adventure, your mind will focus on what is happening around you. Map reading, observing places, new faces, tasks to be solved, and so on. You may have to set up a tent, light a fire, ask random people for directions, cook in a makeshift kitchen, and so on. By doing things that stand out from everyday life, you get a break from the daily grind, and at the same time cultivate your outdoor interests without distractions. A camping trip gives you a presence in the present and can provide fresh experiences, challenges and impressions!

Freedom and a sense of happiness

Getting closer to nature and exploring new areas can give you a sense of freedom and happiness. Natural surroundings have many health benefits! In nature, in the forest or by the water, surrounded by fresh air and wildlife, you often find a deeper sense of peace than in cities.

The mind and body benefit from walking around, listening to the sounds around you, breathing fresh air and observing beautiful nature - without interruptions. This gives you a unique feeling of freedom that creates happiness! That's why it can be nice to put down your mobile phone and other things that can trigger stress, to feel free and present in the present when you're camping.

Feeling of mastery, gratitude and new energy

On an excursion, you sometimes have to solve tasks or overcome challenges. It can be as simple as trying a new dinner recipe on a campfire, reading maps and navigating your way to your destination, meeting new people, setting up a tent, or planning an excursion in the local area. By completing small and large tasks, you can get a sense of mastery, pride and joy. Many campsites also offer activities, such as Via Ferrata at Helle Camping, or kayaking and boating at Valsøya. It can be just as exciting for experienced and inexperienced people. Explore the activity offer in the Campio app or ask the camping driver where you are traveling.

Camping holidays help to fill your batteries with new, fresh energy - whether you are traveling alone or with others. The best thing about simple, short-distance and affordable accommodation is that many people have the opportunity to go on a short or longer holiday. New nature and travel memories can make us grateful for our own presence and the wonderful opportunities life has to offer!

A pleasant camping holiday can make us more relaxed, contribute to better sleep and less stress. The feeling of having excess energy is absolutely fantastic! The best thing about a holiday trip is that you can decide for yourself whether to relax, be creative or do something active - whatever suits you.

We make it easy to get around

The best thing about camping is that it is easy, short-distance and budget-friendly. Maybe you want to stay one night, a few days or for a longer period in a camper or cabin? There is an offer for everyone! We have mapped all campsites in Norway and Sweden, and help you find even the ones open in winter.

Our best tip for a wonderful camping trip is to use technology to find your next adventure - and the rest of the time to be there. Log out and enjoy the surroundings alone or with others. Remember; simple is often the best!
